FOR KIDS: (June 20-26) 2 Samuel 5-7; 11-12; 1 Kings 3; 8; 11, "Building a Temple"

We live in a time that was foretold where “Temples dot the earth.” Right now there are 282 temples either dedicated, being built or announced. Temples are Houses of the Lord. King Solomon used the finest materials to build the temple during his time. We likewise make sure that the highest quality material and standards are used when we build temples today.

Most of us can’t go and actually help build a temple, but we can help to build a temple worthy people.

In October 2021 President Nelson said,

My dear brothers and sisters, these are the latter days. If you and I are to withstand the forthcoming perils and pressures, it is imperative that we each have a firm spiritual foundation built upon the rock of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ.

So I ask each of you, how firm is your foundation? And what reinforcements to your testimony and understanding of the gospel are needed?

The temple lies at the center of strengthening our faith and spiritual fortitude because the Savior and His doctrine are the very heart of the temple. Everything taught in the temple, through instruction and through the Spirit, increases our understanding of Jesus Christ. His essential ordinances bind us to Him through sacred priesthood covenants. Then, as we keep our covenants, He endows us with His healing, strengthening power. And oh, how we will need His power in the days ahead.

In order to be worthy and prepared for the temple we must build our testimonies, increase our faith, enter into covenants and stay worthy through repentance, obedience and daily prayer.

Cut out and build the temple while talking about the importance of each piece.

Optional Activity: King Solomon was given an opportunity to have any gift he wanted from the Lord and he asked for wisdom in judgment. If you could have any gift from the Lord what would you ask for? Was Solomon’s choice a good one?
